Do Now 12/3/07

During class last week, we read the Ed/Op article called "Hub rules drive cabbies down rough road" Review this article (in the file links on the website) and consider the following:

1. A good piece of persuasive writing should inspire action on the part of the reader. Do you think that the writer of this article has inspired you to get involved in solving this problem? How?

2. A solution offered by a writer should somehow improve the situation. Will the solution offered by the author improve the situation with cab drivers and service? In what ways will it?

Post your answers here. Then encourage your classmates to defend their answers by responding to them.

1. I think that the article has inspired me to help but I cant do anything. I am too young and I'm still going to school and I can't help some guy who can't afford a taxi
license. Who will give like $1,000,000 to some guy who needs to drive a taxi?

2.I see no difference between writer and author. I think that it will not improve the situation. Well my answer is neutral. The yes answer will come when high class people donate to them. The no answer will come when those people need our money. It depends on the author's perspective.

The article didn't exactly inspire me because it didn't focus on an issue I am that concerened about. The fact that people need cabs I think is ridiculous, every one should have a car.Anyway the authors solution did catch my attention because it convinced me that they didnt just write the article to write it. I guess basically they said that drivers should be more poular in low income areas but should not look at them as Medallion zones or JACKPOT areas.

i dont think so because it is not some thing that instres me to try to get into all the way. i dont realy rember what the thing was but i do think it can help in some way

Randy I believe there is no nuetral side to this. You are right. One article by a person no one knows about will not concern a representative that probably never took the time to read the article. The government will just push this issue to the back of their knowledge or completely erase it.

To me the writer of this article has not inspired me to set involved in solving this problem. This article really doesn't sound as interesting as it should be the author made it boring. The solution the writer gave us was very interested the solution was that the taxi drivers should be able to go to low-income areas.

I DO NOT THINK THAT THIS ARTICLE HAS INSPIRED ME TO BE INVOLVED IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM. THE REASON IS BECAUSE IT WAS NOT AS PERSUASIVE AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

NO I DO NOT THINK THAT IT WILL IMPROVE THE AUTHORS SITUATION BECAUSE WHAT IS WRITTEN IS NOT INTERESTING OR PERSUASIVE.

1.) I think that writings should inspire action. In this article it inspired me to use my ability to write to the people in charge of the taxi drivers. I can make a great point in an argument of how it's to much and that they need to make a living.

2.) I don't think that getting a perspective from an auther or writer would help. I think that it would not improve the situation. I think that if more people get involved at disagreeing a debate would happen and that the taxi drivers would have something positive to say to the people who are interested.

1.Yes I feel that the writer of this article has inspired me to get involved in solving this problem because there really something that you can do.

2.Yes the solution offered by the author improve the situation with cab drivers and service.

1. No. This article was not as interesting as I wanted it to be it was about a problem that was very common to many people and since I was already aware I didn't really care much about it and I also think that the writer didn't do a great job trying to catch the readers.
2. To me the solution was as affective but it might help.
I didn't finish.

I think that maybe the article has inspired me to help them but I cant do nothing.I am really young and I am still in school i don't even work. An d who would give so much money only for a taxi driver. Also I think that there are no difference between writer and author. I think that it will not improve the situation.

i think no because i am a kid and we kids can not do anything about it

i think that taking the power of charging for licenses from the goverment is a good idea because nw more people would be able to get cabs around this neghborhood
